Enhancing the Brilliance of Natural Green Diamonds in Jewelry

Green diamonds have a special charm to their color because they can be viewed differently in each individuals eyes. The intensity scale for green diamonds is like that of other natural fancy colored diamonds, including pink and canary yellow diamonds. Each diamond color is crafted into jewelry differently, accentuating the color's unique attributes, so let's get into how the beauty of green diamonds can be enhanced in jewelry!

The color intensity of green diamonds can vary from faint green to fancy vivid, green with varying levels of saturation and vibrancy. The higher the intensity grade, the more vibrant and saturated the green hue is. Green diamonds can also display secondary hues or modifying colors. These secondary colors can include yellow-green, blue-green, grayish-green, and brownish-green. Each combination of hue and secondary color creates a unique and distinct appearance, making each green diamond unique!

How We Set Green Diamonds in Jewelry

Surrounding the Diamond with Rose Gold

The choice of how to craft color diamonds into jewelry is made strategically. The metal surrounding the diamond is one of the most important decisions, that will either bring out the best of the diamond's natural color, or it can wash the diamond out.

Interestingly, green diamonds are set the same way pink diamonds are. Experienced color diamond jewelers are almost always set in rose gold, meaning the prongs and the head are rose gold. The rest of the ring, like the band, can be white gold, yellow gold, or platinum, but the metal immediately surrounding the diamond, will more often than not be rose gold.

The pink hue of the rose gold brings out a sweetness in green diamonds that other metals do not.

Below is an example of how we set a green radiant diamond in a rose gold halo and rose gold prongs.

Color Enhancement with Green or Black Rhodium in the Basket

Although uncommon, some jewelers may choose to enhance the color with black or green rhodium painted onto the basket under the diamond.
