1. The Pink Star

It is no surprise that the Pink Star Diamond is the most expensive diamond to ever have been sold. Sold at auction by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong for $71.1 Million, this diamond has broken multiple records. Weighing 59.60 Carats, it is the largest natural Fancy Vivid Pink and Internally Flawless ever sold, as well as the most expensive pink diamond ever sold by a margin of over $10 Million. The Pink Star comes with an interesting history as well, since it took over two years to cut from its original 132.50 Carat form.

2. The Williamson Pink Star

The Williamson Pink Star, which stole the record for the price per carat, sold for $57.7 Million at auction by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. It reached a price per carat of over $5.1 Million, which towers over the Pink Legacy Diamond and the Blue Moon of Josephine! A Fancy Vivid Pink color and Internally Flawless clarity is a winning combination, and this diamond is world class.

3. The Pink Legacy Diamond

The Pink Legacy was sold at auction by Christie’s in Geneva for $50 Million to Harry Winston, a diamond legend! This beauty weighs 18.96 Carats, has VS2 clarity, and has a shocking Fancy Vivid Pink color. The way this diamond is cut, as seen below, also makes this a standout diamond that is hard to keep your eyes off of. This diamond held a world record price per carat for a pink diamond, at over $2.6 Million, for several years following its sale in 2018.

4. The Graff Pink Diamond

The Graff Pink was sold at auction for $46.1 Million by Sotheby’s in Geneva. It held the record for the world’s most expensive pink diamond for over 6 years, after being sold in 2010! The Graff Pink is a Fancy Intense Pink emerald cut with VVS clarity, which is slightly more mellow in color than a Fancy Vivid pink, but it is still obviously a groundbreaking diamond.

5. The Princie Diamond

The Princie Diamond is a HUGE, 34.65 Carat Fancy Intense Pink cushion cut diamond, that sold at auction for $39.3 Million by Christie’s in New York in 2013. It is famously the most expensive loose pink diamond to ever be sold at auction, in the history of time!

6. The Eternal Pink Diamond

The Eternal Pink was part of a record breaking Sotheby’s auction in New York in 2023. When sold for $34.8 MIllion, it was one of two stones in the same sale to sell for more than $30 Million! The stone has an extremely rich Fancy Vivid Purplish-Pink color and Internally Flawless clarity, which as you can see in the picture below, is the reason this diamond skyrocketed in price at auction.

7. The Pink Promise Diamond

Even though at 14.93 Carats this is one of the smaller stones listed, the Pink Promise Diamond was sold at auction by Christie’s in Hong Kong for an insane amount: $32.4 Million! The Pink Promise is a Fancy Vivid Pink diamond, with VVS1 clarity, and classified as a Type IIa diamond, which means this diamond is a rarity, within a rarity, within a rarity.

8. The Unique Pink

The Unique Pink Diamond has the perfect name, because it is truly unique and one of a kind. It is a pear-shaped Fancy Vivid Pink, and it was sold at auction by Sotheby’s in Geneva in 2016, for $31.5 Million! This diamond is a diamond worth dreaming about, and one of our personal favorites at Rare Colors. Its  pear-shape cutting Type IIa structure gives this diamond something special. Less than 2% of all diamonds ever mined, are considered Type IIa diamonds, meaning they possess no nitrogen or boron impurities.

9. The Sakura Pink Diamond 

The Sakura Pink Diamond weighs a whopping 15.81 carats and was sold at auction for $29.2 Million by Christie’s in Hong Kong in 2021. It is an uber bright Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink, which already makes this diamond incredibly rare, and it holds internally flawless clarity. Even though the GIA has graded millions of diamonds, The Sakura is famously the largest Flawless or Internally Flawless, Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink natural diamond the GIA has ever graded, as of 2020.

10. Sweet Josephine 

Last on our list, the Sweet Josephine Diamond was sold at auction for a massive $28.5 Million by Christie’s in Geneva in 2015. This unbelievable cushion cut diamond is a rare Fancy Vivid Pink, weighs an impressive 16.08 Carats, and was given a crystal clear VVS2 clarity by the GIA. Actually, this diamond is known to be the largest cushion cut Fancy Vivid Pink diamond to ever even reach auction. This diamond, set in in platinum and gold, surrounded by a double halo, is a masterpiece and still only the tenth most expensive pink diamond.
